1. What PureBariatric does
PureBariatric is an educational platform for adults preparing for, recovering from, or living long-term with bariatric surgery and GLP-1 therapy. We focus on five recognised metabolic and bariatric procedures: laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), single-anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass with sleeve (SADI-S), laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB), and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD-DS).
We do
- translate published clinical guidelines into plain-language education
- publish calculators, checklists, and reference tools as starting estimates
- offer structured behaviour-change coaching (protein, hydration, supplement adherence, recovery routines, relapse prevention)
- provide a personal journaling system to help you notice patterns and share them with your own clinical team
- cite our sources in a public citation log
We do not
- diagnose any medical, surgical, nutritional, or mental-health condition
- prescribe medications, supplements, lab work, or imaging
- adjust GLP-1 dosing, insulin, or any other prescription
- replace your surgeon, bariatric nurse, dietitian, psychologist, or family physician
- provide emergency care of any kind
- provide nursing care or any service requiring local healthcare registration in your country
2. Service tracks
PureBariatric is organised into three tracks. The educational content (this website, the calculators, the Nutrition Journal, and the mobile app) is freely available worldwide. Paid coaching differs by your country of residence.
Free education (worldwide)
Open access. Articles, calculators, the Nutrition Journal web tool, and the PureBariatric mobile app (where available in your country’s app store). No coaching relationship is formed.
Coaching — Canada
1:1 and group behaviour coaching for Canadian residents. See the Canadian coaching scope page for full credential disclosure, scope, intake process, and consent requirements.
Coaching — International
1:1 non-clinical wellness coaching for residents of the US, UK, EU, Australia, and New Zealand. See the international coaching scope page for the credentials, scope limits, and guardrails that apply.
3. Our evidence base
Our educational content is grounded in publicly available clinical guidelines and peer-reviewed literature, including:
- American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) clinical practice guidelines
- Obesity Canada Adult Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) chapters
- AACE / TOS / ASMBS / OMA / ASA peri-operative nutritional, metabolic, and non-surgical support guideline
- International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) position statements on protein
- British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) post-operative nutritional guidelines
- Peer-reviewed journals such as Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases, Obesity Reviews, and Obesity Surgery
Every published claim is logged in our Methodology & citation log. PureBariatric is not affiliated with, endorsed by, certified by, or partnered with any of these organisations — references are factual citations of their publicly available work.

5. Emergencies and red flags
Examples of post-bariatric symptoms that require same-day clinical assessment — not coaching — include: persistent vomiting beyond 24 hours, inability to keep fluids down, severe abdominal pain, fever, signs of dehydration, signs of dumping syndrome not improving with conservative measures, calf swelling or chest pain (possible blood clot), black or bloody stools, sudden severe headache, or any thoughts of self-harm. PureBariatric is not equipped to triage or treat these.
6. How this page is updated
This Scope of Practice page is reviewed at least annually, and immediately when our credentials, service offerings, or regulatory environment change. The effective date and version at the top of this page reflect the most recent material update.
